Our final day in DC was shorter due to traveling home. We started out touring the grounds of Mount Vernon where George Washington lived. Then we headed to the National Museum of the United States Army. We had two flights with a short connecting flight, but the kids stayed together, and once again, were complimented by strangers on how respectful and kind they were! Plus, we made our flight and made it back to Sauk Prairie! We had a wonderful trip and are leaving with open minds, full hearts, and all kinds of new knowledge!! Thank you for following along on our adventure! Next year...we travel to NYC! Who's coming with us?!!

SPMS DC Day 3: another great day of taking in the history in our nation's capital. We started out with a tour of the Capital Building, and then got to go inside the Supreme Court Building! We then went to the Eisenhower Memorial, Air and Space Museum and spent two hours in the African America Museum. The Fords Theater is closed, but our tour guide had 6 students do a small reenactment of what happened the night Lincoln was shot there. We then went to the National Portrait Gallery and finished our night with the MLK Memorial and FDR Memorial. Our students continue to represent SPMS with pride and the adults on the trip are very impressed by how intentional they are as they soak up all of the history. One more day on this amazing trip!

Day 2 was all about museums and memorials. We packed in so much today! World War II memorial, souvenir shopping, holocaust museum and memorial, pentagon 9/11 memorial, Air Force memorial, national archives, natural history museum, American history museum, Korean memorial, Lincoln memorial, and the Vietnam memorial. Seeing all of these incredible places is a fabulous experience in and of itself, but the best part of the day is hearing from other people how respectful our students are being at all of these places! So proud of these kids! Tomorrow is another packed day!

SPMS had a great first day in Washington DC! We started at the Arlington cemetery where we watched the changing of the guard of the tomb of the unknown soldier. The kids were incredibly respectful. We then had a quick stop at the Iwo Jima memorial where the kids were tasked by our tour guide to get into groups and recreate their own photo! We finished the night at the national harbor where we were treated by a concert of the United States Air Force band and Luke Hager got to conduct the final number, Stars and Stripes!! Our night ended with a quick ride on the big Ferris wheel overlooking the Potomac River! We are ready for bed and can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow!

Over the past two days, 8th Grade ELA and Social Studies classes participated in a film festival to mark the end of our interdisciplinary, Civil War Documentary Film project. Student groups had two weeks to learn about the planning, design, and creation of documentary films that focused on Civil War Era topics and subjects that they researched. Students had choice over their topics, their angle, and their design of their film. These turned out wonderfully and students loved the project! #TogetherWeSoar 🦅🎉👏🏼
