Despite a few raindrops, we hit the West Bluff trails at Devil's Lake today! Up and down the trail, students took in the geology and lovely views!
A big thank you to @WisConservation for awarding us a GoOutside grant for this trip!

MCS 4K students and families had an amazing day at the ferry. Mr. Adam provided all the children with a scoop of ice cream and they enjoyed riding the ferry. The walk back up the hill to school was no match for these energetic 4K students!

Everyday is #WISchoolGardenDay at Merrimac! Students have been busy planting seeds and bulbs, transplanting seedlings grown in class, and watering the new sprouts!

Suddenly salad! Harvest time for the hydroponically grown lettuce and spinach in the #towergarden. Fifth graders used science to whip up some vinaigrette to top it off!

Hands wet and feet muddy! Releasing the rainbow trout is an exciting field trip that completes our five month project! Everyone released a trout and learned about the fresh water ecosystem. A big thank you to @WIDNR for their support of #TroutInTheClassroom again this year!

Students are planning their summer reading after a visit from the librarians at the Ruth Culver Community Library and George Culver Community Library!

Our 3rd graders had a fantastic time at the Rural Safety Day Camp at the Sauk County Fairgrounds this week! They learned important lessons about safety and injury prevention topics. Topics included how to be safe around fire, water, animals, tractors, guns, seatbelts and more!

🌱💚 MCS Garden Work Day – A Huge Success! 💚🌱
What an amazing Family Garden Work Day! We had a record number of helpers show up, and thanks to all your hard work, we got everything done in record time — and even had time to tackle extra tasks! 💪🌼
Our school community garden is blooming brighter because of the time, energy, and heart you all shared today. 🌻 From weeding and planting to hauling and organizing, every little bit made a huge difference. Truly, many hands make light work!
A huge THANK YOU to all our incredible Merrimac Families for showing up and digging in together. 🌿💖 Special thanks to Buttermilk Barn for the soil donation!

Egg-citing update on the incubators! Students candled the eggs to check for blood vessels and see which eggs have a chick or duckling developing inside. It's hard to wait!
#agintheclassroom

Looking good in print! MCS was featured in the Spring Annual Report of the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin as a grant recipient! Our fall field trip received funds from their #GoOutsideFund grant! Thank you!

Egg-citing day at MCS as we set the chicken and duck eggs in the incubators! Now we learn a lesson in patience until hatching day!

Stir it Up Sauk Prairie visited the 4th graders today. They learned about “eating the rainbow” and the importance of eating different colored fruits and veggies! They got to prep, create, and enjoy veggie pizza!

Congratulations to Kirsten Johnson, Mary Walz, Todd Breunig, Jenna McCann and Emily Rennicke on being named Herb Kohl Educational Foundation honorees.
We are proud of how you represent our amazing teacher team!

Thank you to these educators for teaching and inspiring our students:
Kirsten Johnson, Science teacher at Sauk Prairie High School
Mary Walz, Math and Computer Science teacher at Sauk Prairie High School
Todd Breunig, Physical Education teacher at Sauk Prairie High School
Jenna McCann, 2nd Grade teacher at Merrimac Community School
Emily Rennicke, Physical Education teacher at Sauk Prairie Middle School

Congratulations to all of our young writers who participated in the Young Author's Conference. Sauk Prairie was represented by 18 students from grades 3-5.
These young authors from Grand Ave, Merrimac and Tower Rock had their writing selected as winning entries. Because of their winning pieces, the students earned participation in the Central Wisconsin Talented and Gifted (CWTAG) Young Author's Conference where they heard from a published author and attended writing workshops. Their work is published in an anthology of winning entries.
The Young Author's Conference, held earlier this year in Westfield, featured writing from students across Central Wisconsin in the areas of poetry, narrative writing, and creative writing.

Habitat dioramas by grade 1 are filled with flora and fauna! Students demonstrated their learning by choosing and creating an ecosystem!

Let's get growing! Grade 5 checked the water quality and transplanted their seedlings into the Tower Garden!

Orchard pruning and a #FirstDayHike for April! A big thank you to Zach Engleking and EC3 for pruning our school orchard! We appreciate your support of our project!
After helping in the orchard, students took a magnifying glass walk in the school prairie to see all the little things! Moss, old chrysalis, seed heads, and more!
